As the entire globe is busy preparing for the "new normal" while trying to mitigate the effects of the Coronavirus pandemic in different industries, Amazon Web Services (AWS) showcases some of their products that can help businesses adopt cloud infrastructure technology.

In a recent interview with Santanu Dutt, Head of Technology for South East Asia with Amazon Web Services (Singapore), gave an overview of the different AWS services that can help businesses of any size to catch up with technology, particularly with the use of Machine Learning (ML) and Artificial Intelligence (AI).

Santanu explained to me how people inside AWS are treating the company as a "Day 1 organization" -- in spite of being in the business for more than fourteen (14) years offering public services in the cloud (and twenty-five years for being in the .COM business in Electronic Commerce), they believe that even if with millions of customers they have in the platform, it is still very early days for them.

"We are just starting to see in the Philippines and in Southeast Asia of what is possible with technology and (digital) transformation with some of our customers. AWS is a very long term thinking company. We engage with customers by educating them and making them try our services," according to the AWS Technologist.

Cloud is the New Normal

With the on-going pandemic, more and more businesses are looking at cost-effective cloud solutions to bring their products and services to a greater market. As businesses move to the cloud, they find that speed to market is becoming equally as important.

For example, Amazon Kendra allows AWS customers to create their own search engines for their public and internal websites. Kendra is a Machine Learning powered highly accurate and easy to use enterprise search service. It delivers powerful natural language search capabilities to websites and applications so that information and content, which are spread across a company, can easily be found.

On another hand, multinational companies like Bayer, Novartis, and GE Healthcare rely on Amazon SageMaker for their Machine Learning (ML) development. SageMaker is a fully managed service that provides every developer and data scientist with the ability to build, train, and deploy machine learning (ML) models quickly. It removes the heavy lifting from each step of the machine learning process to make it easier to develop high-quality models.

The traditional ML development is one complex, expensive, iterative process that is made even harder by the lack of integrated tools for the entire machine learning workflow. ML developers and data scientists need to stitch together tools and workflows, which is rather time-consuming and error-prone. Amazon SageMaker provides all of the components used for machine learning in a single toolset, so models get to production faster with much less effort and at a lower cost.
