17 more cops infected by coronavirus

Seventeen more policemen tested positive for the coronavirus, bringing to a total of 239 the total number of cops diagnosed with coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

Philippine National Police (PNP) Health Service chief Brig. Gen. Herminio Tadeo Jr. said that of the 17 new cases, three are policewomen.

“All new diagnosed personnel were assigned in Metro Manila,” Tadeo said.

The official said a total of 67 policemen have already recovered from COVID-19 while four succumbed to the virus. Of the remaining cases, 116 patients are in quarantine facilities, seven are admitted in hospitals, and 35 are undergoing home quarantine.

The PNP Health Service also also documented 687 police personnel who were listed as probable persons under investigation (probable PUIs) and 536 police personnel considered as suspected persons under investigation (suspected PUIs).

A total of 1,728 personnel, including 841 probable PUIs, 871 suspected PUIs, and 16 confirmed have completed self- or home quarantine, Tadeo said.

Policemen are at the forefront of the fight against the spread of COVID-19, in the aspect of implementing home quarantine and other measures such as curfew, mandatory wearing of face masks, and physical distancing.
