A 27-year-old man allegedly raped a 16-year-old girl in Intramuros, Manila Saturday night.

Police identified the suspect as Danilo Aranas, tricycle driver, and the victim as a Grade 9 student; both residents of Baseco Compound at Port Area in Manila.

Investigation showed that the victim left her house at around 7 p.m. after having an argument with her partner.

While she was walking along the street, Aranas approached her and asked where she was headed.

The suspect offered her a ride on her motorcycle when she said she was going to Divisoria.

While they were riding to the said location, it started to rain, forcing them to stop and seek shade along Cabildo Street corner A. Soriano Avenue in Intramuros. This was where Aranas allegedly raped the minor victim.

Later that night, the suspect voluntarily surrendered to officials of Barangay 649 in Baseco. He was brought to Tondo Medical Center for medical examination and was later turned over to the police.

Aranas, who is now under custody at the Ermita Police Station, will be facing charges for violation of Republic Act 8353 or The Anti-Rape Law of 1997.
