Tacloban city gov’t starts distributing cash aid to public utility drivers

TACLOBAN City - In support of the transport sector that has been adversely affected by the community quarantine being implemented due to the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic, the city government here has distributed P1,500 cash assistance to registered motorcab-for-hire (MCH) drivers in the city on Tuesday, May 5.

A total of 1,871 MCH drivers were eligible to avail of the financial assistance, according to the city’s Business Permit and Licensing Division (BPLD).

Aside from the MCH drivers, over 1,020 public utility jeeps (PUJs), yellow-cab, e-trike, and pedicab drivers, registered from January to February, will also be receiving cash aid from the city government.

The BPLD likewise announced that the scheduled distribution of cash assistance would be on a first come, first-served basis.

Senior citizens and persons with disability (PWD) would be accommodated first, and priority numbers would be given at the Rizal Park here in order to observe social distancing.
