The number of confirmed coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases in Mandaluyong City soared to 407 as of Thursday, the local government said, as mass testing of suspected cases in the city continues.

In an update, the City Public Information Office said two patients have recently recovered from the disease bringing the total number of recoveries to 68.

On the other hand, two new COVID-19 deaths were recorded, which makes the total number of deaths in the city to 35.

The City Public Information Office credited the high number of cases to the intensified mass testing being conducted by the local government to those individuals suspected to have contracted the disease.

“Ang pagtaas sa bilang ng new cases ay resulta ng pinaigting nating mass testing sa mga suspect case para matukoy natin ang mga COVID-19 positive at magawa ang mga susunod na kinakailangang hakbang o maibigay ang agarang kaukulang gamutan,” it said.

Mayor Carmelita Abalos said 162 individuals were tested by the roving team from the City Health Department on Thursday.

“153 sa kanila ay health workers, 7 ay barangay staff at 2 COVID-19 positive patients na re-swabbing (153 of them were health workers, 7 were barangay staff and 2 COVID-19 positive patients were re-swabbed),” said Abalos in Facebook post. #
