Keep lifestyle simple even after pandemic – bishop

Archdiocese of Manila Apostolic Administrator Bishop Broderick S. Pabillo has called on Filipinos “to maintain and keep their lifestyle simple even after the corona virus disease (COVID-19) pandemic.”

In his message for the 50th anniversary of Earth Day Wednesday, April 22, Pabillo stressed that a simpler lifestyle is beneficial to the environment and helps an individual save more of his/her hard-earned money.

“As we celebrate Earth Day 2020, we are reminded to protect and preserve our environment. The celebration also marks the fifth year of Pope Francis’ encyclical on the environment, ‘Laudato Si” which highlights our role as stewards of the world we live in,” the prelate said.

Pabillo said, the simple lifestyle observed by the majority as a result of the enhanced community quarantine is helpful to the environment.

“The ECQ has brought about a simpler lifestyle for many and therefore, gave our environment a respite. I enjoin everyone to continue to observe this way of life even after the lockdown. It also helps cut our unnecessary expenses,” he said.

The Church leader called on the faithful to pray for the restoration and healing of our Mother Earth.

“While we stay safe in our homes, let us spend our time praying and include in our prayers the restoration and healing of our Mother Earth. Let us all do our share in environmental care and protection,” Pabillo said.
