The country’s food supply is sufficient to last for the remaining days of the enhanced community quarantine, the Department of Agriculture (DA) said.

Agriculture Secretary William Dar said as of April 17, the country’s rice inventory is enough for more than two months’ consumption.

“Meron tayong sapat na pagkain...So wala dapat ipangamba ang mga Pilipino,” Dar told DZMM in an interview Friday.

(The country has enough food supply...So there’s no need for the public to be worried.)

Dar added that food supply will be enough as long as the public will not hoard or resort to panic buying.

The DA secretary also assured that supply of fish is “more or less” enough for the entire period of the ECQ.

Meanwhile, Dar said he has already written a request to the InterAgency Task Force (IATF) to consider agriculture sector workers as frontliners.

“Kung di natin gagawin yan ay baka ma apektuhan yung production natin ngayon, and preparation na rin ito para sa wet season,” Dar said.

(If we don’t do this now, it may affect our food production, also in this way we could already prepare for the wet season.)
