Catbalogan gov’t gives cash aid to PUV drivers

TACLOBAN City – A total of 756 motorcab and tricycle drivers have received financial assistance from the City Government of Catbalogan.

City Mayor Dester Uy shared that those drivers who have beeb registered with the city government since 2018, but have not been able to operate due to the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) threat were qualified to receive the financial aid.

He said, for the second batch of distribution, each beneficiary received P1,500 as part of the initiative package dubbed “Ayuda para han mga Napasada” (Assistance for Public Utility Drivers).

"This initiative was made possible through the Catbalogan City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO), Catbalogan City Business Processing and Catbalogan City Licensing Office (CBPLO) released by the City Treasury Office (CTO) to the barangays," the mayor said.

He added that they continue to distribute a sack of rice and grocery items per household as they extend the enhanced community quarantine being implemented in the city until April 30.

The city remains free from COVID-19 with only three suspected individuals.
