2 persons arrested for selling overpriced alcohol in Catanduanes

VIRAC, Catanduanes - Two persons were arrested by joint operatives of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group- Catanduanes Field Unit (CIDG-CatPFU) and the Catanduanes Provincial Police, in cooperation with Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), Food and Drug Authority (FDA) and the Department of Health (DOH), in an entrapment operation Friday, April 10, for allegedly selling overpriced alcohol.

Catanduanes Police Provincial Director Col. Paul F. Abay identified the suspects as Marvin A. Magtangob and Joanah V. Sarmiento, on-line sellers and residents of Barangay Rawis in this town.

Magtangob and Sarmiento were said to be taking orders via online, and selling 500 ml-bottle of alcohol at P190 each, when the suggested retail price was only P74.25.

Authorities were able to confiscate 15 500 ml bottles of 40 percent ethyl alcohol, as well as the boodle money used in the entrapment operation.

The couple was placed under the temporary custody of CIDG-Catanduanes PFU while charges for violation of RA 10623 (Price Act) in relation to RA 11469 (Bayanihan To Heal As One Act) are being readied against them.
