Number of COVID-19 cases in W. Visayas rises to 39

ILOILO CITY – The number of positive cases of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Western Visayas region has risen to 39, including seven previously reported fatalities.

In a Friday (April 10) afternoon conference call with reporters, the Western Visayas Regional Office of the Department of Health (DOH) confirmed that the lone new case was that of a 69-year-old man from Pandan town in Antique province.

Dr. May Ann Soliva- Sta. Lucia, DOH’s regional spokesperson for COVID-19, said the newest case was the second positive case in Antique province.

Sta. Lucia noted that the data released Friday afternoon were from test results released as of 6 p.m. Thursday, April 9.

Iloilo province remains to have the most number of COVID-19 cases with 15. It is followed by Bacolod City with seven positive cases.

There were also six COVID-19 positive cases in Aklan province, four positive cases in Capiz province, four positive cases in Iloilo City, and one positive case in Negros Occidental province.

The island province of Guimaras remains to be the only area in the region with no positive COVID-19 case.
