DOST Regional Director Julius Caesar Sicat said they have conceptualized a response project to address the needs of frontline workers who are exposed to COVID-19 patients in hospitals.

Sicat dubbed the project as ‘OneDOST Against COVID-19’ which also includes the participation of different government agencies. The project uses equipment from the Philippine Science High School (PSHS) Clark campus in manufacturing 3D printed face shields.

Under its PisAYUDA: Siyensya para sa Bayan project, PHS has temporarily transferred its laser cutter and heat press machines to the agency for the production of the face shields.

“DOST Region III has solicited the help of Rondayvu Enterprises, a manufacturer leasing a warehouse at the DOST-Technology Resource Center facility in Concepcion, Tarlac, for the production of 500 sets of PPE,” Sicat said.

Another project is the procurement 1,680 bottles of 500 ml 70 percent ethyl alcohol from the DOST Region III Regional Standards and Testing Laboratory which will be distributed to six identified hospitals in the region - the Bataan General Hospital and Medical Center, Bataan St. Joseph Hospital and Medical Center, Dr. Paulino J. Garcia Memorial Research and Medical Center, Jose B. Lingad Memorial Regional Hospital, Diosdado P. Macapagal Memorial Hospital, and Sacred Heart Hospital Malolos.
