The San Juan City government has bared its plan to use the Filoil Flying V Centre as a quarantine facility amid the continuous rise of confirmed cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in the city.
San Juan City Mayor Francis Zamora announced that he is now working for the use of the indoor sporting arena as an additional quarantine facility.
“Inaayos ko na po ang paggamit ng Filoil Flying V Centre (San Juan Arena) bilang karagdagang quarantine facility ,” he said in a Facebook post.
All local government units in the country were earlier ordered by the national government to identify facilities which will be temporarily used as isolation or quarantine facilities as hospitals have already reached their capacity to cater to patients with COVID-19.
Although he is currently on self-quarantine, Zamora assured that the operation of the city government will continue, as well as the distribution of food packs in the coming week.
The local chief executive announced over the weekend that he is on quarantine after being exposed to a member of his staff who tested positive for COVID-19.
Zamora said he is in good condition and has no symptoms of the disease.
"I feel perfectly okay,” he said in Filipino. “It just so happened that I have a staff in the Mayor’s Office who tested positive for COVID-10 so I decided to undergo self-quarantine.”
“As I have said earlier, we are ready to distribute food packs up until the fourth week or more in case the enhanced community quarantine will be extended,” he added.
The local government has also been conducting disinfection and sanitation activities in all of the barangays in the city.
Meanwhile, Zamora announced that the COVID-19 ward at the San Juan Medical Center will open soon now that the city-run hospital has COVID-19 isolation rooms.
He further said that the San Juan Science High School COVID-19 overflow quarantine facility will be opened within the next few days. “This is in partnership with the Xavier School.”
As of 4 p.m. of March 30, San Juan City has 94 confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 12 deaths, the local government disclosed.
There were also 133 persons under investigation (PUIs) and 328 persons under monitoring (PUMs) for the disease in the city.
