LAOAG CITY, Ilocos Norte –  The provincial government of Ilocos Norte has started the distribution of relief assistance to the different local government units (LGUs) that are set to benefit 70,000 families.

Ilocos Norte’s Provincial Social Welfare and Development Officer Corazon Lilian Rin said that the provincial government started on Tuesday the distribution of sacks of rice and food packs to the towns of  Carasi, Piddig, Solsona, Banna, Adams, Dumalneg, Pagudpud, Bangui, Burgos, Currimao, Pinili, Paoay, and Nueva Era.

Among the recipients of the relief assistance from the province were the families, whose wages were earned on a daily basis;  the Millenium Development Goal (MDG) recipients, drivers, street vendors, farmers, and fisherfolk.

Because of the enhanced community quarantine, Rin said residents have had limited access to basic needs such as food and essential health services.

“Hopefully within this week, we will be able to distribute all the reliefs to the remaining LGUs so they could also immediately deliver it down to their respective barangays,” said Rin.
