DAVAO CITY - Mayor Sara Duterte has suggested to all barangay chairpersons that they remove all the benches in front of sari-sari stores within their jurisdictions to prevent people from gathering, and to prevent the spread of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

In an interview on Wednesday, Duterte said there were reports that there were some local residents who continued to loiter, and used the benches at sari sari stores to while their time away. Some would even move on to having a drinking spree with neighbors.

"Kay nakita nako sa feedback ang mga tawo muingon nga muadto lang og tindahan kay naay paliton pagkahuman pag-abot sa tindahan molingkod ug mag-inom (I saw from the feedbacks that some people would say that they will just buy something from the store but then they would start drinking there), "she said.

She noted that there are people who are drinking early to avoid the liquor ban.

The local government has strictly prohibit the selling or serving of intoxicating drinks from 5 p.m. until 8 a.m.
