CEBU CITY—A policeman was killed while on his way to work in Barangay Dumlog, Talisay City, southern Cebu.

Police Cpl. Marlon Belleres, 29, was driving a motorcycle when a gunman onboard another motorcycle repeatedly shot him before noon Saturday, March 21.

The attack happened just a few kilometers from the subdivision where the victim lived.

The victim was assigned at the Mobile Patrol Group of the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO).

Police Maj. Gerard Ace Pelare, chief of the Talisay City police, said investigators are looking into love triangle or personal grudge as possible motives for the crime.

According to witnesses, there was only one assailant.

“There was only one gunman. It’s indicative of extreme hate because usually if its gun-for-hire, there are two persons involved,” Pelare said.

Pelare said the assailant executed a U-turn after seeing the policeman, drove beside the victim, and fired at least six shots.

The victim crashed to the gutter and slumped at the side of the road.

The victim suffered gunshot wounds in the neck and shoulder.

Police Col. Hector Grijaldo, the newly installed chief of CCPO, said the victim was described by his colleagues as a good police officer.
