Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto urged local government units(LGUs) to “copy each other’s best practices,” amid netizens’ comparisons of efforts being done in different cities to combat the spread of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

Sotto, in an interview with 24 Oras Thursday, also called on the public to stop comparing LGUs.

“Kung constructive, okay lang naman. Kami po dito sa Pasig, pag may nakikita po kami na magandang practice sa ibang LGU, ginagaya din po namin,” Sotto said, citing Valenzuela’s anti-hoarding, anti-panic buying ordinance as an example of an ordinance they have adopted.

(If it’s constructive, it’s okay. We here in Pasig, if we see a good practice in other LGUs, we adopt it.)

“Magtulungan na lang po, let’s copy each other’s best practices,” Sotto said. (Let’s just help each other, let’s copy each other’s best practices.)

Meanwhile, the Pasig mayor said he will comply with the national government’s directives after the latter turned down his proposal to use tricycles to transport medical health workers from their homes to their workplaces.

“Kami dito sa Pasig, mag co-comply kami sa kahit ano direktiba ng ating nasyonal na pamahalaan,” Sotto said. (The Pasig city government will comply with the national government’s directives.)

“Kaya lang po ako nagsalita, para lang po marinig din nila iyong pananaw namin, experience namin sa ground. Pero at the end of the day, we need to have one policy sa NCR (National Capital Region), sa buong Luzon. Mag co-comply po kami sa kung anong sabihin sa atin ng nasyonal na pamahalaan,” he added.

(The reason why I spoke up was that I wanted the national government to hear our view, what we’ve experienced on the ground. But at the end of the day we need to have one policy in NCR, in the whole of Luzon. We will comply with whatever the national government says.)
