In Kabankalan City, a boy who suddenly crossed the road was allegedly ran over by a truck loaded with softdrinks in Barangay Oringao.

Police withheld the name of the fatality.

Investigation showed that the rear part of a truck driven by Franklin Amorganda, 32, of Bais City, Negros Oriental, hit the child, which caused his immediate death.

Amorganda was placed under police custody.

In Bago City, Nimfa Fernandez, 89, of Barangay Taloc also died after she was allegedly hit by a motorcycle driven by Mark Boncalon, 19, of the said village.

Maj. John Joel Batusbatusan, city police chief, said that Fernandez was crossing the road when Boncalon failed to notice her and hit her.

Batusbatusan said that Boncalon lost control of his vehicle and fell on the ground.

Both sustained head injuries and were rushed to a hospital, where Fernandez died a few hours later.

Batusbatusan said Boncalon was not wearing a helmet when the accident happened. He also committed other traffic violations for not having a driver’s license and other pertinent documents.

Batusbatusan said Boncalon was already discharged from the hospital and was placed under police custody, but was released the following day after the lapse of the 18-hour reglementary period.

Both parties have already reportedly reached an initial settlement, he added.
