ILOILO CITY – A late night fire damaged a school building in Passi City, Iloilo province.

A report from the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) in Passi City found P1.2 million in damage to the administration building of Passi City National High School.

Fire Officer 3 Dietmar Palma, BFP-Passi City arson investigator, said in a phone interview that the fire started just before 11:30 p.m. Sunday.

The fire engulfed the administration where the offices of the principal, faculty, staff, and treasurer were located. The building also housed the supply room for the school.

According to Palma, BFP-Passi City had to get augmentation from BFP units of neighboring Dueñas and San Enrique towns to be able to put out the fire.

Based on the mopping up operations conducted by BFP-Passi City, the principal’s office and the offices for the faculty and staff were totally destroyed while the supply room was partially damaged.

The incident may have been caused by electrical trouble.

“We are still probing what caused the fire, but it’s most likely electrical since there was no one in the room and there’s no any other underlying factor,” Palma added.
