In a bid to make the nation's capital a "smart city," Manila City Mayor Francisco "Isko Moreno" Domagoso has ordered the Manila City Department of Engineering and Public Works (DEPW) to install 34 new Wi-Fi hotspot terminals along the stretch of España Boulevard and around the University Belt to provide better internet access to students.

Domagoso and DEPW Head Engineer Armand Andres inspected the ongoing construction of the WiFi hotspot terminals on Wednesday.

In 2019, the city government launched the first MNL Konek kiosk at the Andres Bonifacio Monument Park near the city hall.

Aside from providing free Wi-Fi, the kiosk also has a charging station, a phone booth, and a closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera.

Earlier, Domagoso said the city government will install 50 more Wi-Fi kiosks should MNL Konek prove successful.
