PRO 13 orders manhunt killers of father, son

CAMP COL. RAFAEL C. RODRIGUEZ, Butuan City – The regional command of Caraga Police Regional Office 13 (PRO 13) on Friday ordered a province-wide manhunt against the killers of a father and son in Barangay Caridad, Pilar, Surigao del Norte.

PRO 13 also ordered Surigao del Norte Police Provincial Office (PPO) and Pilar Municipal Police Station (MPS) to conduct a thorough investigation with the objective of identifying the perpetrators and motive for the killing of Romel Española, 45, and his 17-year-old son last Tuesday, February 25..

“Our Regional Director Brig. Gen. Joselito T. Esquivel, Jr. has ordered the arrest of the killers and immediate filing of appropriate charges in court,” said PRO 13 Regional Public Information (RPIO) chief Maj.l Renel E. Serrano.

Initial report reaching the regional tactical and action center of PRO 13 stated that Española was driving his motorcycle, with his son as back rider, and travelling from Sitio Panghungawan, Barangay Jaboy towards Pilar town proper at 6 a.m. Tuesday when unidentified gunmen crossed their path and fired at them. The Españolas died on-the-spot.

After seeing that father and son were already dead, the perpetrators immediately fled to an unknown direction, the report said.

As of press time, investigation and hot pursuit operation was still ongoing for possible identification and arrest of the suspect/s.

Motive of the incident was yet to be determined.
