160 suspects fall in crackdown vs. illegal gambling in Caraga region

CAMP COL. RFAFAEL C. RODRIGUEZ, Butuan City  -  Amidst the intensified police operations and the implementation of ‘No Take Policy' of the Philippine National Police (PNP), 160 violators of the illegal gambling law were arrested in less than two weeks operations in various parts in Northeastern Mindanao or Caraga region.

The all-out operations against illegal gambling were conducted February 10 to 22.

Caraga Police Regional Office 13 (PRO 13) Regional Director Brig. Gen. Joselito T. Esquivel Jr. said that, out of 18 anti-illegal gambling operations,  three operations were conducted against Swertres/last two, three on playing cards, one on cara y cruz, three on mahjong, six on cock fight, one on spiders game, and  one for online cockfighting.

A total of P53, 588 were confiscated in 13 days of operations.

“Our relentless operations continued against illegal gambling and other illegal activities,” the region’s top cop told The Manila Bulletin on Monday.

All arrested persons are now facing charges for violation of Presidential Decree No. 1602 (Prescribing stiffer penalties on illegal gambling).
