OWWA-11 releases cash aid for 401 families of OFWs affected by 2019 earthquakes

DAVAO CITY - The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) 11 released this month a P1.2 million in total cash assistance to families of overseas Filipino workers' (OFWs) who were affected by the series of earthquakes last year in Davao del Sur.

OWWA-Regional Welfare Office, headed by Gina Mae Quimora, in coordination with the City Government of Digos and the Public Employment Service Office (Peso), released the calamity financial assistance of P3,000 for each family at the City Hall Compund, Digos.

The calamity assistance is part of the Welfare Assistance Program (WAP) which provides financial assistance to OWWA members and their families affected by natural or human induced calamities or disasters.

OWWA Region 11 Director Ron Lionel Bartolome said that his office received a total of 1,090 applications for financial assistance for OWWA members who were victims of the earthquakes.

Of the total number of applicants, the regional office found that only 493 were active OWWA members, while 597 are inactive members.

OWWA XI has set another schedule for the release of financial assistance to those affected OFWs in the municipalities of Bansalan, Hagonoy, Matanao, and Magsaysay this month.
