An information drive was conducted by the Department of Science and Technology-Technology Application and Promotion Institute (DOST-TAPI) on the Amended DOST Intellectual Property (IP)-Related Policies for the Visayas Cluster.

Aimed to provide a uniform understanding of the amended IP-related policies, the event was the fourth stop among the series of information drive organized across the Philippines.
In addition, the two-day event also included an orientation of some DOST-TAPI Programs to the DOST Regional Offices as well as the state universities and colleges (SUCs) and higher education institutions (HEIs).
“After a rigorous process and meticulous study, we can now present to you the approved amended policies that will guide us into proper protection and management of our research and development works,” said Romeo M. Javate, Officer-in-Charge of the Investment and Business Operations Division (IBOD) of DOST-TAPI.
Javate added that the activity clearly identified the participants’ roles in IP protection and management in relation with their researches.
Since the enactment of the Philippine Technology Transfer Act of 2009 or Republic Act (RA) 10055 in 2010, the Department through DOST-TAPI has been vigorously initiating activities to support the law’s goal of successfully transferring government-funded research and development (R&D) results for the benefit of the Filipino people.
Moreover, the Implementing Rules and Regulation (IRR) of RA 10055 requires DOST to define IP Policy and lay down the institutional mechanisms for technology transfer activities.
“The amended DOST IP-related policies are for the efficiency and effectiveness of the implementation of the law,” said Atty. Lucieden Raz, Project Officer IV of IBOD, during her discussion.
Furthermore, Atty. Marion Ivy Decena, Chief Science Research Specialist(SRS) of DOST-TAPI’s Invention Development Division (IDD), presented the Guidelines on the Issuance of Fairness Opinion Report (FOR) and Written Recommendation.
To seize the opportunity in presenting DOST-TAPI programs among the research academes, Glenda Rima, SRS II of the IDD, presented the Intellectual Property Rights Assistance Program (IPRAP), Invention Testing and Analysis Assistance, and Invent School Program on the second day of the event.
IBOD’s programs on Venture Financing and DOST-Academe Technology-Based Enterprise Development (DATBED)were also presented by Rode Oracio and Theda Mae Dumali, both SRS II, respectively.
More than 50 representatives from the DOST Regional Offices, SUCs and HEIs in the Visayas attended the event.
