UnionBank inks talent dev’t program with SMU

Union Bank of the Philippines (UnionBank) and the Singapore Management University (SMU) – one of Asia’s premier universities – on Tuesday inked an agreement to further develop the potential of SMU’s brightest and most entrepreneurial students by learning from UnionBankers, Union-Bank announced yesterday.

Under the partnership, 10 pre-screened SMU students with mixed expertise will be exposed to various projects of UnionBank for 12 weeks to co-create development of emerging technologies.

The students are covered under the Global Innovation Immersion (GII) program of Singapore Management University – a talent development program for its most outstanding students by serving as interns in startups, venture funds, corporates and non-governmental organizations annually from May to August. The program is endorsed and financially supported by the Singapore government.

Being at the forefront of digital banking in the Philippines, UnionBank said it is excited with this latest talent development initiative, in line with its “Student Mentorship Program” which offers opportunity to work in the bank’s most innovative and exciting projects; collaborate with experienced professionals; gain cross-border and cultural experience in a corporate/fintech setting; obtain deeper understanding of banking, finance, technology and the impact of the bank’s initiatives to promote financial inclusion; and foster holistic development.

The bank earlier launched its first-of-its-kind Blockchain Institute, Data Science Institute and BlockchainXcellerator programs to help build a pool of tech talents in the Philippines.
