Village official killed in Bacolod

BACOLOD CITY - A village councilman was killed by six unidentified armed men at Barangay 26 here Saturday night.

Slain was Kagawad Romeo Canlas, 33, of Barangay 2.

 

Lt. Col. Ariel Pico, public information officer of Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO), said Canlas came from a cockpit before he went to the house of another kagawad in Barangay 26 past 9 p.m.

 

Canlas had a drinking session with seven other companions when the armed men stormed the compound and fired unknown caliber of firearms at the victim.

 

He sustained eight gunshot wounds and was rushed to Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital here, where he was declared dead.

 

The armed men reportedly fled on board a white van.

 

Pico said they cannot yet tell if the victim was tailed or was being monitored prior the attack.

 

Pico said police have yet to establish the motive of the killing, as they are still checking the background of the victim.
