HP has been known as a brand that utilizes innovation and technology to produce smart products designed to make everyday tasks seamless and convenient. This has been proven true through not just the company’s wide offerings of laptops, but also with its line of printers. Poised to become a viable addition to any office setup, the MB TechNews team recently got our hands on the HP OfficeJet Pro 9020 to test its features and capabilities.

The HP OfficeJet Pro 9020 is an all-in-one printer, which means it can be used to print, scan, copy, and fax documents. And since it’s an AIO printer, expect it to take space in your office, since it comes in a fairly huge form factor that comes in measurements of 437 x 396.3 x 313.3 mm in standard configuration, and weighs at 11.66 kg.

It took us a few minutes to setup the HP OfficeJet Pro 9020 in our office. Outside the box, this printer comes neat, as it only has a few but essential ports, and it doesn’t need too many cables to operate, meaning there isn’t a sight of tangled wires. Upfront, the HP OfficeJet Pro 9020 comes with the power and Wi-Fi connection indicator beside its 6.75 cm colored touch screen for printer controls. At the bottom front part of the printer sits a USB port which is one of the things we liked about this printer since it can be used to easily print and scan documents directly from the files in the flash drive. At the back of the printer is where the power cable, as well as the other ports like Ethernet are located.

The HP OfficeJet Pro 9020 comes average when it comes to the number of pages it can produce. For black prints, it can print up to 24 pages per minute (ppm), while for colored documents, it can produce 20 ppm. The said printer can hold around 500 pages of paper at once in its two paper trays.

Among the features of the HP OfficeJet Pro 9020 that we came to like the most are those that make it a smart and convenient printer. One of these is the ability of this printer to scan a document with a back-to-back print at the same time which obviously will save time from actually flipping the page of a paper just to have both sides scanned. The HP OfficeJet Pro 9020 also allows seamless printing via WiFi direct, which one can use to print documents from a smartphone.

Through the colored touch screen of the printer, users can modify and make use of the HP Smart Tasks which will require either a mobile device or a computer to be configured. This serves as a speed panel or a shortcut bar for important tasks, and it can also be used to have the HP OfficeJet Pro 9020 produce a digitized copy of documents, even handwritten notes.

Of course, since the HP OfficeJet Pro 9020 is considered as a smart printer, it comes with a compatible app which can be used to control and monitor the printer. The HP Smart app has functions that aren’t that different from other printing apps, but what we appreciate about it is that it can be used to remotely print documents from different sources like apps similar to Google Docs, and that when the printer runs out of ink, users will be notified and can buy ink through the app.

Security is also one of the strongest points of the HP OfficeJet Pro 9020. HP has equipped this printer with the HP Secure Erase, a feature which automatically deletes saved data of the documents scanned using the printer. Activating this feature can be done automatically, where the printer will delete data in a certain period of time, or manually using the HP Smart App.

In this digital age where almost all important documents can be viewed using a smartphone and printers are quite considered as the least substantial device, HP refuses to have their printers outdated, and a prime example of this is the HP OfficeJet Pro 9020.
