Airport screening personnel hold two-day meet on security issues

Office for Transportation Security (OTS) Administrator Undersecretary Raul L. Del Rosario recently called an assembly of airport security screening supervisors from all stations nationwide to hear all issues and concerns in their areas and provide support needed for their upkeep.

At the assembly, attendees discussed matters related to updates on security screening operations, preventive measures and basic troubleshooting of security screening equipment, personnel and administrative matters, trainings and accreditation, and compliance monitoring.

Transport Security Risk Management Service (TSRMS) Director Gerardo Gambala, who leads the security screening operations, also shared insights into intelligence and operation matters.

Airport security screening supervisors also attended a workshop on leadership and participated in a team building activity on the second day of the assembly, which was held at the OTS Main Office.

Del Rosario conveyed office policies on security screening operations and the management of personnel and their conduct while at the security screening checkpoint. He emphasized that Security Screening Officers (SSOs) must exemplify attributes of being “mabalasik, maalam, makisig, mapapagkatiwalaan at disiplinado (fierce, knowledgeable, refined, trustworthy, and disciplined).”

The two-day activity enhanced interaction between management and employees in line with their goal to effectively fulfill their promise of secure civil aviation for all air travelers, most especially this holiday season with the huge number of passengers flying in and out of the country.

In attendance were airport security screening supervisors from Manila, Basco, Bohol-Panglao, Busuanga, Butuan, Camiguin, Catarman, Cotabato, Dipolog, Dumaguete, Davao, General Santos, Caticlan, Ilo-ilo, Kalibo, Laguindingan, Laoag, Mactan-Cebu, Marinduque, Naga, Bacolod-Silay, Ozamis, Pagadian, Puerto Princesa, Roxas, San Fernando, Siargao, Surigao, Tablas, Tacloban, Tandag, and Zamboanga.
