The American color company Pantone Color Institute went back to basics as it announced Thursday, that “Classic Blue” is its color of the year in 2020.
The “Classic Blue” is described by Pantone as a “timeless and enduring blue hue elegant in its simplicity.”
“Suggestive of the sky at dusk, the reassuring qualities of Classic Blue offer the promise of protection; highlighting our desire for a dependable and stable foundation from which to build,” the color company said.
As the world crosses the threshold into a new era, Pantone said it translated the blue hue “into a multi-sensory experience to reach a greater diversity of people and provide an opportunity for everyone to engage with the color.”
The Pantone Color Institute was recognized around the world as a leading source of color information through seasonal trend forecasts, custom color development, and palette recommendations.
In 2019, Pantone hailed Living Coral, a bright peach-orange color shade that it describes as “embraces warmth and nourishment to provide comfort and buoyancy in our continually shifting environment,” as the color of the year.
