BFAR releases ‘red tide’ warning in some provinces

The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) released on Monday the list of provinces where shellfish are positive for paralytic shellfish poison beyond the regulatory limit.

BFAR said all types of shellfish and acetes or alamang (tiny shrimps) gathered from the following areas are not safe for human consumption:

  • Pampanga
  • Bataan o Mariveles o Limay o Orion o Pilar o Balanga o Hermosa o Orani o Abucay o Samal
  • Palawan o Puerto Princesa Bay o Puerto Princesa City
  • Bohol o Dauis o Tagbilaran City
  • Leyte o Cancabato Bay o Tacloban City
  •  Samar o Irong-irong o San Pedro o Silanga Bays
  •  Surigao Del Sur o Lianga Bay
According to the BFAR statement, fish, squids, shrimps, and crabs are safe for human consumption if fresh, washed thoroughly, and their internal organs removed.
