Justice Menardo Guevarra made the assurance following the assault against Radyo ni Juan station manager Benjie Caballero.

“We’ll surely take on this case,” assured Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra.

“The DOJ will create a special investigating team for this purpose and will coordinate with all law enforcement agencies,” he said.

In the meantime, Caballero remains in critical condition following the attack, which took place outside his house in Isulan, Sultan Kudarat on Wednesday afternoon.

At that time, the victim was waiting for a ride while on his way to work when he was fired at by two unidentified motorcycle-riding assailants who are believed armed with .45 caliber pistols.

Caballero, who sustained a gunshot wound in the chest, was rushed to the St. Louis Hospital.

Undersecretary Joel Sy Egco, executive director of the presidential task force on media security, has already ordered the police to conduct deeper investigation on the incident and identify the perpetrators.

Egco suspects that Caballero’s critical views may have angered some personalities in the province.
