A man survived a blade attack by his drinking buddy in Barangay 160 in Caloocan City early Sunday.

Police identified the victim as Victor Taraya, resident of the area, and the suspect as Joan Lerit, 32, construction worker, resident of Barangay 161, Caloocan City.

Witness Absalon Tanada, 38, told the police that Taraya and Lerit got into an argument while they were having a drinking spree at the victim’s house at about 4:30 a.m.

Lerit then drew a cockfighting gaff and attacked Taraya by slashing his throat.

Tanada immediately reported the incident to barangay officials and the police, who arrested the suspect.

Meanwhile, the victim was rushed to East Avenue Medical Center in Quezon City for medical treatment.

Lerit was brought to Caloocan City Medical Center for physical examination, and was later turned over to the Caloocan City Police Station Investigation Unit.

He will be facing charges for frustrated murder, police said.
