About P5.4 million worth of illegal drugs was seized from two suspected drug peddlers following a buy-bust operation in Mandaluyong City Tuesday morning.

Colonel Remigio Sedanto, Mandaluyong City Police chief, identified the suspects as Suraida Samad, 43; and Joel Sumlay, 46. Both are residents of Barangay New Lower Bicutan in Taguig City.

The police chief said members of the Station Drug Enforcement Unit conducted the drug sting against Samad along Block 40, Barangay Addition Hills at around 11 a.m.

After the deal, policemen prepositioned nearby quickly nabbed the duo.

Police seized a total of 11 plastic sachets of suspected shabu, and the P5,000-marked money from the suspects’ possession.

Sedanto said the recovered illegal drugs weighed around one kilo with an estimated street value of P5.4 million.

“The suspects are not included in the drug watchlist of Mandaluyong City Police,” he said.

“They are believed to be the source of illegal drugs being sold in Mandaluyong,” he added.

Samad and Sumlay are now detained at Mandaluyong City Police detention cell.

Sedanto said charges for the violation of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 will be filed against the duo.
