Firefighter dies in Laguna training camp

A firefighter of the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) reportedly died while training in the National Fire Training Institute at Camp Vicente Lim in Calamba, Laguna Thursday morning.

Chief Inspector Jude delos Reyes, BFP Spokesperon, said 25-year-old Fire Officer 1 Clinton Obedoza died due to “multiple organ failure,” radio DZMM TeleRadyo reported Friday.

Reports added that Obedoza was already in the barracks when he suddenly fainted. He was rushed to the Calamba Doctors Hospital, but was pronounced dead later.

Obedoza underwent the ropesmanship and rescue training as part of the Special Rescue Unit of the BFP, the counterpart group of the special weapons and tactics (SWAT) in the police.

BFP said Obedoza, who served in the BFP for two years in Metro Manila, did not have any record of pre-existing medical condition since only a few were chosen to be part of the special training unit.

However, BFP denied that Obedoza died of hazing.

Investigation is ongoing.
