A P140-million flood control project along Labason River will soon relieve flooding woes in Labason, Zamboanga del Norte, Public Works and Highways Secretary Mark Villar said.

He furthered that these communities in coastal low-lying areas frequently experience destruction of properties and interruption of commerce and trade due to flooding during the rainy season.

Through the 718-lineal meter river control project, Villar said, a much-needed protective structure will be provided for residents susceptible to flooding including the protection of the Labason Bridge along Liloy- Siocon National Road.

“DPWH understands how such disasters can hinder economic development and impede the daily lives of Filipinos. We recognize its urgency and we shall continue exploring effective measures on flood mitigation,” Villar said.

The construction of the flood control is expected to be completed by November 2019.
