Cpl. Romeo Balagtas Jr. and Pat. Lester Magno were directing traffic along Plaza Santa Cruz when they received a report from a concerned citizen.

The report showed that an elderly woman accidentally “slipped” off the edge of MacArthur Bridge and fell into Pasig River, the Manila Police District (MPD) said in a report.

The officers rushed to the bridge to help the woman and saw her holding on to a thick carpet of water lilies.

The video showed that Balagtas went into the river, swam towards the woman then rescued her by carrying her on his back.

The other police officers at the side of the bridge let down a ladder from which the woman and Balagtas climbed back up.

The video was posted in the Manila Public Information Office Facebook page and credited to Jose Comandante Jr.
