LUCENA CITY, Quezon - An incumbent municipal vice mayor was shot dead while resting inside his house at Calmar Homes subdivision, Barangay Kanlurang Mayao in this city on Monday.
Sergio “Popoy” Emprese, 60, vice mayor of San Andres town, died from a bullet wound on the head fired at close range by one of four suspects, said Superintendent Reydante Ariza, Lucena City police chief.
According to reports, Emprese was lying on a sofa at his living room at around 8:40 p.m. when the suspects entered his house and shot him.
The victim was rushed to the MMG hospital but died while undergoing treatment.
Emprese reportedly has been receiving several death threats.
