LEGAZPI CITY, Albay - A police outpost located in a populous village of Legazpi City in Albay province was attacked by suspected members of the New People's Army (NPA) on Sunday night, the Albay Police Provincial Office (PPO) said.

Captain Dexter Panganiban, public information officer of Albay PPO said that around 8:08 p.m. on Sunday, the Police Community Precint (PCP) 4 located in Brgy. Taysan in this city was fired upon by the suspected rebels.

He said police assigned at the outpost managed to retaliate prompting the suspected rebels to flee to Brgy. Estanza.

Panganiban said the gunmen used M203 grenade launcher and M14 rifles.

There was no casualty on the government side and an undetermined number on the enemy side. The police building was damaged due to the explosions.

Recovered from the site were empty shells of M14 rifles and other fragments.

According to residents, four explosions were heard and these were followed by bursts of fire during the attack.

The attack has instilled fear among the residents due to the proximity of the police building to the residential area of Brgy. Taysan.

"Hindi po makatulog yung 3 year-old kong anak dahil sa nangyari," said Judith, a resident of Ibalong Village in Brgy. Taysan said.

"Grabe po ang trauma ng eldest kong anak. Nahirapan po matulog dahil sa takot, dahil sa nangyari," Eliza added.

Police said the latest attack is the 4th since the police outpost was established nine years ago in Brgy. Taysan.
