1,700 individuals arrested over the weekend for violation of ordinances

A total of 1,793 individuals were rounded up for violating various city ordinances in northern Metro Manila over the weekend, police said.

On Saturday, 877 persons were arrested in Caloocan, Malabon, Navotas and Valenzuela cities for violating ordinances such as drinking in public, smoking ban, half-naked in public, curfew for minors, and in engaging in riots or gang wars; while 916 persons were nabbed on Sunday.

For the drinking in public ordinance, there were a total of 169 violators in Caloocan, 10 in Malabon, eight in Navotas and two in Valenzuela, according to the Northern Police District (NPD).

The smoking ban was violated by 461 people in four cities; while 204 violators were caught for being half-naked in public places.

Further, some 333 minors in the four cities were rounded up for violating the 10 p.m to 4 a.m curfew.

A total of 606 persons, adults or minors, were apprehended for allegedly engaging in riots or gang wars in Caloocan, Malabon, Navotas and Valenzuela cities.

Police said only 896 of the total arrested individuals were fined while the rest were given warnings.
