4.8-magnitude quake jolts Northern Samar

A 4.8-magnitude earthquake jolted Northern Samar early Sunday morning, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) reported.

The earthquake was tectonic in origin and its epicenter traced 21 kilometers northwest of Pambujan town at 5:10 a.m.

The quake had a depth of 15 km with the following registered intensities:

Intensity IV- Pambujan, Catarman, Laoang, San Roque, Mondragon, Northern Samar

Intensity III- Palapag, Biri, Mapanas, San Jose, Gamay, Lavezares, Las Navas, San Isidro, Rosario, Victoria, Lope de Vega, Allen, Lapinig, Silvino Lobos, Northern Samar; San Policarpo, Eastern Samar

Phivolcs also said the quake was felt under the following instrumental intensities:

Intensity III- Borongan City

At 7:17 am, Phivolcs said a 4.4 quake hit Pambujan town anew.

No aftershocks and damage are expected from the tremor.

On Saturday, a 5.0-magnitude quake also struck the town at 1:28 a.m.
