“We want to have the best traffic management. This is part of our goal to be one of the three most highly livable cities in the country,” said Mayor Jerry Treñas.

While the city has been praised for its road-sharing initiatives, the issue of safety has been raised after a husband and wife, both teachers, were killed by a speeding sports car recently.

The MMDA team will arrive next month to assess the traffic situation in the city.

“MMDA personnel will study and give recommendations if there’s a need to upgrade, innovate or introduce new scheme to decongest traffic. They will determine whether pedestrian lanes are dangerous or placed in proper places,” said Jeck Conlu, chief of Public Safety and Transportation Management Office.

Still on traffic improvement, Treñas issued a memorandum to clear road obstructions. He is heeding the directive of President Duterte to reclaim government roads.
