3 make shortlist for Deputy Ombudsman

Three persons have been included in the shortlist of candidates vying to be Deputy Ombudsman for Luzon.

The Supreme Court (SC) announced that the Judicial and Bar Council (JBC) has named Beda Epres, a director of the General Investigation Bureau of the Office of the Ombudsman (OMB); Rodolfo Noel Quimbo, director general of the Senate’s Blue Ribbon Oversight Office Management and Cornelio Somido, the OMB’s acting deputy special prosecutor, as candidates for the post.

The three bested five other applicants who include former Justice Undersecretary Erickson Balmes, former Ombudsman for Mindanao Eusebio Avila, Presidential Anti-Corruption Commission (PACC) executive director Eduardo Bringas, OMB prosecutor Jacinto Dela Cruz Jr., and lawyer Rafael Hipolito

All eight applicants were interviewed by the JBC last May 23.

The shortlist will be sent to Malacanang which will make the appointment to the post left vacant by Deputy Ombudsman Gerard Mosquera who retired last June 1.

Mosquera has served as deputy ombudsman since May 2012.
