Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra, an Ex Officio member of the Judicial and Bar Council (JBC), on Monday evening confirmed that President Rodrigo Duterte assigned Court of Appeals (CA) Associate Justice Henri Jean-Paul Inting to the post.

Inting bested 12 other persons in the shortlist submitted by the JBC to Malacanang.

The seat became vacant after Bersamin got appointed as chief justice by Duterte last Nov. 28, 2018.

Inting, who is a law graduate of Ateneo de Davao, has been magistrate at the CA since Oct. 2012 where his sister, Socorro--now a commissioner of the commission on elections--was also a CA associate justice.

Prior to becoming a CA magistrate, Inting also served as Quezon City’s metropolitan trial court and regional trial court judge.
