Arnel Garces, a gravedigger, and caretaker of Taal Public Cemetery received the most number of votes and is proclaimed as Taal, Batangas municipal councilor in the recently concluded midterm elections.

Garces has been a part of Taal Public Cemetery since 1990 and ran for the same position in 2013 but lost.

Because of his defeat in 2013, Garces was indeed surprised when he won and even got the highest number of votes with 17,787 votes; the next candidate had 4,565 votes.

The town elects a total of eight representatives into the council.

Garce campaigned in the 42 barangays of Taal on his motorcycle with his wife and seven volunteers.
