Two days before the elections, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) is now stationed for coastal security and patrol, Admiral Elson Hermogino, PCG commandant, said.

They have been tapped to assist the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and the Philippine National Police (PNP) in maintaining peace and security nationwide come election day.

With this, Hermogino reminded all Coast Guard personnel to remain apolitical as they perform their election duties.
All unit commanders were also directed to closely monitor all movement and deployment of personnel and assets which at any instance should be covered by appropriate orders.

"They are also encouraged to consult and coordinate with the local Commission on Election (Comelec) officials should any question arises in the course of the deployments," Hermogino said.

Furthermore, proactive measures have already been enforced in all ports for exodus of passengers who will be returning to their provinces starting this weekend to vote while other sea travelers will take advantage of the long weekend to go to beaches as Malacanang declared Monday as a special non-working holiday.

Hermogino said Coast Guard team and assets will also be ready in case Comelec requests for assistance in the transport of personnel and materials to inter-island polling precincts.
