8 candidates vie for seat of deputy Ombudsman

Eight candidates will be vying for the lone seat of Deputy Ombudsman, the Judicial and Bar Council (JBC) announced.

The JBC said the candidates who applied for the post were Eusebio Avila, Erickson Balmes, Eduardo Bringas, Jacinto Dela Cruz Jr., Rodolfo Noel Quimbo, Beda Epres, Rafael Hipolito, and Cornelio Somido.

With the release of the names, the JBC said the public may “submit a sworn complaint, report, or opposition against any of the aforesaid candidates.

Meanwhile, the JBC is set to hold a public interview of the candidates this May 23.

The candidates are vying for the seat which will be vacated by Deputy Ombudsman for Luzon Gerard Mosquera once he retires on June 1.

Mosquera has been serving as deputy ombudsman since May 2012, following his appointment by then President Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III.

Prior his appointment, Mosquera served as commissioner and head of the litigation department of the Presidential Commission on Good Government (PCGG) from 2010 to 2012.
