The Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) has assured that no special treatment will be accorded to Daraga City Mayor Carlwyn G. Baldo who is now languishing at the Legazpi City jail facilities for the killing of Ako-Bicol party-list Congressman Rodel Batocabe and his police escort last December.

By virtue of the warrant of arrest issued by Judge Maria Theresa G. Loquillano, Baldo was jailed at around 10:35 a.m. on Friday for two counts of murder and six counts of attempted murder.

Baldo who went to hiding for several days is the principal suspect in the killing of Batocabe and his escort SPO2 Orlando Diaz.

Batocabe was gunned down several days after he announced he would run for mayor against Baldo in the May 13, 2019 midterm elections.

Baldo voluntarily surrendered to the court and is currently undergoing booking procedure which includes the conduct of medical examination on him.

BJMP spokesman Chief Inspector Xavier Solda said “after the booking process, he will be put in the jail’s reception and diagnostic center of the Legazpi City Jail Annex’’.

Solda explained this area is where the newly committed persons deprived of Liberty (PDL) undergo orientation of the rules and regulations of the facility.

“BJMP chief Allan Iral will not allow any special treatment to any PDL even if they are influential or high ranking officials committed in the BJMP run jails,’’ Solda said.

Solda noted the Legazpi City Jail has 324 PDL at present and has an 80 percent congestion rate.
