Ironman 70.3 kicks off triathlon season

Sunrise Events continues to bolster triathlon in the country by holding a series of national races over the next few months.

Notable international triathletes take center stage on June 1 and 2 on Subic Bay for the Century Tuna Ironman 70.3 presented by Big Boss Cement, as well as the Alaska Fortified Ironkids Aquathlon.

Among those competing in tje 1.9-kilometer swim, 90km bike, 21km run race will be multi-awarded Aussie Tim Reed, Swiss Caroline Steffen, last year’s full Ironman champion Nick Baldwin of Seychelles, Kiwi bet Laura Wood, Guam’s Manami Iijima and Australia’s Sam Betten, Tim Van Berkel and Dimity-Lee Duke.

The Olympic distance race also debuts in Davao with the Penong’s 5i50 Triathlon slated July 7 which will start and finish at the Waterfront Hotel.

The race, which includes a 1.5km swim, 40km bike and 10km run, aims to encourage more participants with its shorter but still challenging distance.

This will be the first of the three-year partnership between Penong’s Barbecue Seafood & Grill and Sunrise Events.

Visayas, then, takes the spotlight on Aug. 11 with the staging of the Regent Aguila Ironman 70.3 Cebu at the Shangri-la Mactan Resort & Spa with new sponsor in Philam Vitality, a science-backed wellness program.

Black arrow Express 5i50 also fires off in Subic on Oct. 27 as well as the Sun Life Cycle PH in November.
