PBA: 24-second case between Magnolia, RoS explained

by Jonas Terrado

A PBA rule prohibited game officials from reviewing a three-point made by Rome dela Rosa with the shot clock expiring during Magnolia’s overtime win over Rain or Shine in Game 7 of their Philippine Cup semifinals at the Mall of Asia Arena.

Dela Rosa’s three with 3:33 left in the fourth quarter that put Magnolia up 53-50 was ruled as a made basket despite video that showed the ball was still in the hands of the Hotshots wingman when the shot clock expired.

But league insiders clarified that a 24-second violation can only be reviewed under the last two minutes of the game, thus preventing officials from possibly reversing Dela Rosa’s three-pointer.

The Hotshots went on to win 63-60 in overtime to arrange a finals rematch with the San Miguel Beermen.

Rain or Shine's campaign ended after blowing a 2-0 lead in the semis and 17 during the third quarter of Game 7.
