Man nabbed for stealing a folding bike in Marikina
The sacredness of Good Friday did not dissuade an alleged thief who was arrested in Marikina City.
Mark JB Pontingon, 24, was nabbed after he allegedly stole the folding bike of Roberto Castro at around 7:30 a.m.
Police said Castro was on his roof feeding his pet doves when he saw Pontingon, a former truck helper, enter his house without permission and took his bike worth P3000.
Castro quickly went down and chased after Pontingon. He eventually captured him and held him at bay until responding police officers arrived.
When the suspect was frisked, police found a kitchen knife tucked under his shirt and a backpack containing several clothes.

Kuwaiti arrested for qualified theft in Manila
A 44-year-old male Kuwaiti was arrested in Malate, Manila last Thursday afternoon for an alleged case of qualified theft.
The accused, identified as Fayes Badi Subaihi, was collared and brought by councilors Adelina Lumibao and Michael Catapang of Barangay 727, Zone 79 of the said district to Manila Police District (MPD) Station 9 at around 5:30 p.m. on Apr. 18.
According to barangay officials, they received a report that the accused and Baraa Mohammed Maywash, 23, and a student in Baguio City, were having an argument in front of a convenience store along Leon Guinto corner Estrada Streets past 4 p.m.
When they arrived at the scene, Maywash told them that Subaihi has a standing warrant of arrest from Baguio City Regional Trial Court Branch 60 stemming from his complaint of qualified theft that allegedly transpired last January in the City of Pines.
At the police station, the cops verified with their colleagues in Baguio City the claim of Maywash in which they received a confirmation.
But the accused said his name is Fayez Alotaibi.
The complainant, on the other hand, insisted that he is the same person who is the subject of the arrest warrant.
Police apprised the accused of his constitutional rights and nature of his arrest before he was brought to his cell.

20-year-old student killed in motorcycle-bus collision
A 20-year-old student died when the motorcycle he was riding crashed against a bus in Malanday, Valenzuela City on Friday evening.
Police identified the fatality as Eironn Rascle Bercida, resident of Dalandanan, Valenzuela City; and the suspect as Brian Roberto, 37, resident of Meycauayan, Bulacan.
Bercida was riding a Suzuki Raider motorcycle while Roberto was onboard a passenger bus.
Investigation showed that both vehicles were traveling southwards along MacArthur Highway in Valenzuela City at about 11:48 p.m.
While Roberto was making a left turn in front of the bus terminal, he accidentally hit the front portion of Bercida's motorcycle.
The victim fell on the ground and sustained fatal head injuries, killing him instantly.
Both vehicles involved also incurred damages of an undetermined amount.
Roberto will be facing charges for reckless imprudence resulting in homicide and damage to property. (Minka Klaudia Tiangco)
16 sachets of shabu seized in Navotas sting
Sixteen sachets of suspected shabu were seized from three suspects in a buy-bust operation at Barangay North Bay Boulevard North (NBBN), Navotas City on Friday morning.
Arrested were Eliseo Esgana, 39, fisherman; Analyn Salonga, 26, jobless; and Erlinda Pelareja, 26, jobless; all residents of the area.
Elements of the Navotas City Police Station Drug Enforcement Unit conducted the entrapment operation at Market 3 in Navotas City at about 5:25 a.m.
According to a report, operatives arrested Esgana and Salonga after a poseur buyer bought a sachet of suspected shabu worth P300 from them.
Pelareja was nabbed after police chanced upon him buying illegal drugs from the other two suspects.
Two sachets of suspected shabu were retrieved from Esgana, while 12 sachets of suspected shabu, P200 in cash, and P300 marked money were retrieved from Salonga.
The seized pieces of evidence were brought to the Northern Police District-Crime Laboratory Office in Valenzuela City for laboratory examination.
The suspects will be facing charges for violation of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. (Minka Klaudia Tiangco)
17 drug suspects nabbed in buy-bust ops in QC
At least 17 drug suspects including a 17-year-old boy were arrested by the police in separate buy-bust operations in Quezon City on Good Friday and Black Saturday.
First to fall in the hands of Kamuning Police Station (PS-10) operatives in its Good Friday drug sting was Alfred Arroyo, 21, who yielded six sachets of shabu during the operation on the corner of East Avenue and Magalang Street in Barangay Pinyahan around 5:20 p.m.
Police said Arroyo was included in the drug watchlist of PS-10.
Personnel of Novaliches Police Station (PS-10) nabbed Wilson Francisco, 30 and Joecel Tumbaga, 28, at Sarmiento Street in Brgy. Sta. Monica during its Oplan Galugad around 7 p.m. Friday.
Operatives spotted the duo engaging in cara y cruz or game of chance when they seized a sachet of shabu from Francisco which resulted in their arrest.
Members of PS-4 also arrested in separate operations Ernesto Lucas Jr., 26, and Jomarie Moral, 20, who were initially accosted for violating city ordinances in Brgy. Bagbag and in Brgy. Gulod when authorities recovered from them sachets of shabu.
Members of Cubao Police Station (PS-7) Drug Enforcement Unit (SDEU) arrested Zachary Almorado, 21; Joshua Dela Cruz, 19; Christian Quiño, 21 and James Amaro, 19 during a drug sting inside an apartelle room at Yale Street in Brgy. E. Rodriguez around 9 p.m. Friday.
Seized from the group were 15 sachets of shabu with an estimated street value of P13,600 and some drug paraphernalia.
Meanwhile, Batasan Police Station (PS-6) collared in a buy-bust Noe Dormitoryo, 35, and Elvie Balboa, 27, at Group 9, Area B in Brgy. Payatas about 9:10 p.m. after yielding three sachets of shabu.
Authorities said Balboa was a newly identified drug personality of PS-6 while Dormitoryo was a known drug pusher in their barangay and listed as the top drug suspect target in street-level operations.
Almost an hour after, PS-6 personnel also arrested Shannen Valles, 18, on the corner of Almasiga and Tanguile Streets in Brgy. Old Balara after a concerned citizen tipped off the police about the illegal drug activity of the suspect.
When checked, authorities caught her in possession of a sachet of dried marijuana leaves.
Members of Talipapa Police Station (PS-3) SDEU nabbed in a drug sting Margo Rabanes, 32; Catherine Montinegro, 40; Rodel Carrion, 42; and Solomon Fulache, alias Ramon, 44 at No. 105 Brgy. Pasong Tamo around 1:15 a.m. on Saturday.
Nine sachets of shabu and a motorcycle were recovered from the group.
In Brgy. Apolonio Samson, authorities from La Loma Police Station (PS-1) arrested in a buy-bust Ryan Gacosta, 36 and his 17-year-old male companion at Silangan Street around 2 a.m. Friday.
Confiscated from the duo were five sachets of shabu.
Arrested drug suspects are now under police custody and were charged with violation of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

100 families left homeless after fire erupted in QC
At least 100 families were left homeless after a fire erupted in a residential area in Barangay Apolonio Samson, Quezon City on Black Saturday morning.
Bureau of Fire Protection-Quezon City (BFP-QC) Fire Marshal Jaime Ramirez said the fire started at the second floor of a house owned by a certain Donna Serenado at Tabing Ilog Street around 5 a.m.
The alarm status was immediately raised to second alarm around 5:08 a.m. or at least eight minutes after the fire broke out.
It further reached third and fourth alarm at 5:29 a.m. aS the blaze quickly spread to adjacent houses made of light materials.
Probers said around 50 houses were razed by the fire that lasted for almost two hours before it was put out by firefighters at 6:48 a.m.
The blaze also injured a resident identified as Joshua Reblando, 26, who suffered a laceration on his right knee.
No casualty was reported but estimated damage of the fire was pegged at P250,000.
The cause of the fire is yet to be established as further investigation is still ongoing. (Alexandria San Juan)
Sidewalk vendor caught peeing in public found carrying 13 sachets of shabu in Makati
After being caught peeing in public, a sidewalk vendor was found carrying 13 sachets of shabu in Makati City on Friday afternoon.
Reynaldo Fontanilla, 33, was arrested along M. Reyes St. in Barangay Bangkal, Makati around 1:30 p.m.
Fontanilla was approached by policemen to apprehend him for urinating in public but he ran away.
The cops went after him and was arrested after a few minutes.
When asked for his identification card, Fontanilla opened his black pouch containing 13 sachets of shabu.
Some of the sachets of shabu fell on the ground upon opening the pouch of the suspect, police said.
Fontanilla was only supposed to be charged for violating a city ordinance.
But because of the discovery of shabu sachets, he was also charged with possession of illegal drugs.
The suspect is now under the custody of Makati police. (Jel Santos)
Fire erupted in perfume factory in San Juan
A perfume factory in San Juan City was hit by a fire on the late evening of Good Friday, the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) said.
The fire broke out around 11:03 p.m. at the factory located at the corner of A. Laki and Lagmay Street in Barangay Balong Bato, San Juan City.
According to initial investigation, the blaze allegedly started on the second floor of the building. Due to the blaze, the second level collapsed, while the fire towered over the building’s roof.
Firefighters were quickly dispatched and fought the raging fire that reached the second alarm. It was declared fire out an hour later at around 12:03 a.m. of Black Saturday.
No one was injured in the fire, while the damage was initially estimated around P350,000, the BFP said.
Arson investigators are still yet to determine the cause of the hour-long fire. (Jhon Aldrin Casinas)
