Ex-cop running for councillor shot dead in Legazpi City

CAMP OLA, Albay - A retired police officer who is a candidate for councilor in Legazpi City was shot to death by still unidentified assailants while visiting a friend in a far-flung village of the city on Wednesday afternoon.

Police Major Malu Calubaquib, Police Regional Office 5 (PRO-5) spokesperson identified the victim as Ramiro Bausa, a retired PNP official and an independent candidate for councilor in Legazpi City.

Initial investigation disclosed that according to Joven Bausa Llanto, around 3:20 p.m. on Wednesday, the victim is about to meet a person along the road of Brgy. Cagbacong. The victim disembarked from his service vehicle and chooses to walk while Joven was left at the service vehicle.

After a few minutes, Joven heard 5 gunshots and then two male persons approached and instructed him to leave the area.

Calubaquib said, Brgy. Kagawad Fe Aycocho found the lifeless body of the victim near a nipa house in Brgy. Cagbacong.

Bausa is a former director of Camarines Sur Police Provincial Office (PPO) in 2013 and retired from police service in 2017.

His elder brother, Enrique "Tsip" Bausa, also a retired PNP officer was ambushed in Daraga town, Albay province in 2007.

Tsip Bausa was also a candidate for councilor in Daraga after retiring from police service.
